ESD and the 2017 NEC


The 2017 National Electrical Code includes some significant changes and additions affecting electrical safety at marinas, boatyards and commercial and noncommercial docking facilities.

1.  Article 555 -- Marinas and Boatyards has a new name:

"Article 555 -- Marinas, Boatyards, and Commercial and Noncommercial Docking Facilities".

2.  The new Article 555 applies to ALL docking facilities, including those at one-, two-, and multi-family residences (dwellings).

3.  The maximum permitted ground-fault protection has been reduced from 100 mA to 30 mA.

4.  Ground-fault protection is required for overcurrent protective devices at the mains, feeders, AND branch circuits.

5.  Warning signs must be posted at all approaches to docks where electrical wiring and equipment is installed.
